Fashion bloggers, lifestyle professionals and boutique owners all have one thing in common: They have personal style down to a T. But did you ever wonder what the wardrobe behind the impeccably well-dressed looks like? Each week, we’ll go inside the closets of these stylish Bostonians to find out how they put together the well-crafted appearance.

Sarah McManus, a local fashion consultant and personal stylist, credits her love of everything fashion to her Italian grandmother, a former model. Today, she helps those in need of some wardrobe work to craft the perfectly updated closet stocked with the right fitting clothing that also aligns with each client’s personal flair, through consultations, personal portfolios, and shopping trips.

When she’s not helping others update their wardrobes, Sarah freelances as a fashion writer and has been published in The Examiner, Her Campus and more, as well as featured as a style expert on NECN’s Style Boston and WHDH Channel 7 News. Sarah also runs her own style blog, dubbed the Boston Stylista, where she documents her current fashion and beauty obsessions.

We asked Sarah to take a break from revamping other people’s closets in order to give us a peek inside her own. Interested in how a professional stylist styles herself? Read on.

How would you describe your personal style?

I would say my personal style is a combination of bohemian with some rocker chic mixed in. I love to mix pieces and create a look all my own. I love the way Kate Moss is a master of doing this and really knows how to be versatile with her style.

Where do you love to shop?

I shop everywhere. I keep my eye out in every store I’m in even if it’s Target. My favorites are Madewell,  Club Monaco, Topshop and Urban Outfitters.

What are your must-have staple items for a great wardrobe?

A fitted blazer is key in every girl’s wardrobe. Pairing it with jeans or a dress can really pull a look together. Jewelry can make a statement, so I always have a great necklace on hand.  A white tee that really compliments your silhouette is another staple. My little booties are also a must. They are perfect for day and night and my feet don’t suffer.

What up and coming trend pieces do you currently own or have your eye on?

I’m really into ear cuffs right now. They are a fun way to update your earrings. My Birkenstocks have really made a comeback. I have my eye on a robe coat for Fall. They have a great shape!
