Remember Flat Stanley, the paper cutout you’d send to distant friends and family in elementary school, begging to be snapped in exotic places? Vogue does, and it re-envisioned the childhood favorite in a very high-fashion way. The magazine printed and distributed a “small army” of 3D-printed mini Karlie Kloss dolls, in a variety of poses from the ubiquitous model du jour. The 50 figurines spent 80 days traveling to 22 cities, getting the star treatment in clever photo shoots around the world.

Karlie’s long legs and coy smile have been spotted at Stonehenge, the Great Wall of China, Niagara Falls, and even the moon. Like any good international voyage, her tour of the continents was not without hiccups. Vogue notes that more than a dozen limbs were broken in transit (ouch!) and that the mini Karlie was escorted off the Acropolis in Greece. Head to Vogue for the dolls’ complete photo diary and even go behind-the-scenes of her 3D shoot. You’ll never feel so envious of a piece of plastic.
