Boston Restaurant Talk reports that beloved BBQ joint, Smoken’ Joe’s BBQ & Blues, will close for good tomorrow, September 23.

The restaurant, which features lives music and plenty of pulled pork and brisket, was forced to shut down temporarily last year due to construction and water damage. Before reopening this past December, the Smoken’ Joe’s owners vented their ongoing frustrations with the location’s landlord.

And, according to the restaurant’s recent Facebook note, it seems this conflict – as well as health problems and money issues – may have had something to do with Smoken’ Joe’s upcoming closure. The post states:

“It is with tremendous sadness that Joe & Wendy announce the closing of Smoken’ Joe’s Barbeque & Blues as of September 23, 2014. Since the shutdown last October and November, we have never recovered in our sales and have lost money every month since… Joe, who is still recovering from his heart attack has been working in the kitchen to reduce our payroll. As his health continues to deteriorate from exhaustion and stress, he cannot continue doing this. In addition in an effort to address the terrible situation with our landlord we have spent close to $20,000. Now there is nothing left…”

Sad indeed. However, the owners are also encouraging Smoken’ Joe’s fans to stop by between now and tomorrow “to say goodbye and enjoy the food and music.”

If you go, Smoken’ Joe’s is located at 351 Washington St. in Brighton.
