On Wednesday, September 24, Vhoto announced that it’s now offering its photo service for the iPad. The company, with dual offices in Boston and Seattle, is expanding its app’s availability on the iPad to accompany the iPhone and iPod touch, and is free to download on all the devices. Just make sure you download the newly minted iOS 8 operating system first.

Vhoto works simply and effectively. To help you snap the perfect photo, engage Vhoto which actually starts taking video instead of pictures. From that clip, Vhoto allows the user to choose which still shot is the best or most important to them. The “Time Shift” feature lets the user move back in forth between periods of time within the clip for acute actions shot timing.

“We’ve learned a lot by processing more than a million iPhone videos from dedicated users since we soft launched in May. As a result, our app is fine-tuned to provide the best user experience possible,” said Noah Heller, co-founder and CEO of Vhoto in a statement. “Vhoto is now better, faster and the images we present to our users are of fantastic quality.”

Vhoto’s technology also affords the user high resolution shots of up to 1080p on the iPhone 5 or later; editing features including sharpness, contrast, faces, smiles, novelty and user intent; the ability to record in low-light settings; and enjoy photos taken from around the world.

Along with being made available for the iPad, Vhoto’s latest version also includes a fresh interface, 20 new filters, multiple recording capabilities, and overall improved stability.

To date Vhoto has raised $3.1 million in venture funding from the likes of Polaris Partners, Atlas Venture and Maveron. Back in May Polaris poured $750,000 into Vhoto to bring that total to where it is today.

What’s great about Vhoto is that it’s not exclusively built for people who take action shots alone. The software can be used in more dormant situations and to perfect what might normally be a shot disrupted by movement. Perfect for amateurs and pros alike, Vhoto has garnered more than 500,000 downloads since launching and shows no signs of slowing down.
