Happy National Frappe Day, folks! Today, October 7, is just another reason to sip and celebrate the fancy milkshake in New England. And fortunately for Bostonians, there are a plethora of ice cream spots and restaurants serving up a tasty and oh-so-thick frappe today – and every day – in the Hub. Here are 5 spots we recommend getting your frappe on this week!

Johnny’s Luncheonette

30 Langley Road, Newton Centre

Head out to Johnny’s Luncheonette in Newton for a tasty frappe made with homemade Richardson’s ice cream. Flavors include vanilla, chocolate, coffee, strawberry, cookies & creme, mint chocolate chip and strawberry cheesecake. If you go, we recommend ordering the off-the-menu black & white frappe.

Lizzys

Multiple locations

With their famously delicious homemade ice cream and plethora of flavor options, Lizzy’s is the place to go for ice cream in Harvard Square. Their frappes were recently voted Best of Boston 2013 by Boston Magazine, which praises the shop’s vanilla frappe above all others.

Toscanini’s

899 Main St., Cambridge

Toscanini’s is my favorite ice cream spot in Boston – so, admittedly – I’m a tad bias. But rest assured – this shop serves up some of the very best frappes around. Diners can choose any flavor ice cream they want – and trust me, there are plenty of options. Take a look at the flavors, here.

UBurger

Multiple locations

This might seem like an easy pick but it’s no less delicious. UBurger serves up a variety of frappes with blended ice cream, syrup and milk. Flavors include vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, coffee, black & white, mocha, oreo, mint oreo, Reese’s, and creamsicle. Diners can also add a malt option for just 50 cents.

Wahlburgers

19 Shipyard Drive, Hingham, MA

A trip out to Hingham for these Wahlburger frappes will be well-worth the effort. The famous burger joint owned by the Wahlberg family serves up a long list “Adult Frappes” as well as “Frappetinis” that are sure to knock your socks off. Flavors include fluffanuttah, mud pie, s’mores, blueberry pie and more.
