This weekend, its Christmas in October for Boston. The 50th Annual Head of the Charles Regatta is back and sure to be just as exciting as last year. The largest two-day rowing event in the world, which takes place 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19, is sure to be jam-packed with plenty of races, rowing enthusiasts, and spectators hailing from all over the country.

But with massive crowds coming our way soon, you better have a plan for where to post up this weekend. After all, if you want to watch the action without getting stepped on, it’s best to stake out your prime viewing spot early. Fortunately for you, we’ve taken the liberty of putting together this bridge-by-bridge guide to the Head of the Charles this weekend. Hopefully, this will make your decision for where to watch the rowing spectacle that much easier.

First Mile

The BU Bridge: If you’re looking to catch the beginning of the race, then this is the place to be! You’ll witness hundreds of boats lining up for the big event.

And they’re off!

Second Mile

River Street and Western Avenue: Rowers refer to this spot as the “Powerhouse Stretch.” The second bridge in the Powerhouse Stretch, Western Ave Bridge, offers spectators a perfect view of each rowing crew as they careen down the Charles River.

Weeks Footbridge: This pedestrian bridge is a popular viewing spot due to the sharp 90-degree turn – making for some pretty exciting action. You may just see a rowing team or two crash (but let’s hope not).

Halfway Point

Anderson Memorial Bridge: Located between Harvard’s Weld and Newell Boathouses, this halfway point is a great spot to watch the action if you’re coming from the Harvard Square area. Anderson Memorial Bridge also connects directly to JFK street.

Third Mile

Eliot Bridge: The race isn’t over quite yet! The Eliot Bridge happens to be the three-mile marker for rowers. And if you’re also looking to see some of the rowing crews in-person, we recommend heading to the Finish Area Launch Site (FALS). You’ll be able to see some of the best rowers in the world up close and personal!

Finish Line

Christian Herter Park: It’s officially over! Head here to see the end of the race.
