Modla is a UK-based 3D printing design and consulting company that focuses on implementing this emerging technology across multiple industries. Founded by Jon Fidler, a 3D designer, Modla provides services in 3D printing, product design, visualization and renderings and scanning, as well as consulting.

While the company is more than just an art studio, Modla’s visual, 3D-printed structures are wonders to look at. Recently, the Fidler teamed up with artist Damilola Odusote to create a 3D-printed structure based off of the conceptual inspiration behind the Nike Air Force 1, and not long after, the team was commissioned by Converse to give their Chuck Taylor sneaker the same treatment.

When researching the history of the Chuck Taylor All Star, Fidler and Odusote discovered a shoe that had ties to WWII fighter jet pilots, rock and roll and basketball. With those influences in mind, Odusote crafted a 2D sketch, which Fidler then turned into a 3D sculpture printed with SLS nylon plastic.

Get a closer look at the 3D-printed Chuck Taylor, which, while you can’t wear it, is a true work of art.
