Halloween is coming up next Friday, and chances are, you don’t have your costume yet. And while the spookiest holiday of the year is right around the corner, you still have plenty of time to plan a creative costume and avoid pulling out your crinkled pirate getup again. (And if you’re over 30, you have some additional rules to live by.)

But, if you’re adverse to those corny packaged costumes that skimp on the material but jack up the price, things get a little trickier when it comes to getting your outfit together. To help you avoid getting ripped off by the Spirit Halloween stores, we’ve rounded up the best thrift and costume stores to search this week and next for the perfect quirky pieces. Whether it’s a tutu for your zombie ballerina costume, a fur vest to complete a woodland creature look, or a chunky sweater for your Twin Peaks character, chances are, you can find it at one of these spots. All you have to do is look for it, of course.

And don’t worry – this way, your costume won’t be a “sexy” anything.
