It’s almost here – the holiday we’ve all been waiting for since the 4th of July. Costumes! Candy! Haunted Houses! Jack-o-Lanterns! It’s Halloween – and you’re probably not prepared at all. But don’t worry, you still have time to buy candy, find a costume, carve a pumpkin, and hang up fake spider webs. You’ve got until next Friday, anyway.

What you probably don’t have time to think about is all the Halloween-themed apps you’re missing out on in your preoccupation with other things. Not to fear. We’ve compiled a list of some of the coolest, most interesting, and most helpful apps that should help make your All Hallow’s Eve a success!

Track n Treat

Want to keep track of the kids (or, alternatively, your partying friends) on Halloween, without the hassle of following them around? Just have everyone download Track n Treat on their iPhones and make sure you know where everyone is, all night. Create a network, enable location sharing, and you’re good to go!

Zombify

Ever wonder what you would look like as an extra on The Walking Dead? If you’re not a costume make-up expert, it’s pretty hard to satisfy this kind of curiosity. But don’t offer yourself up as a snack for the undead just yet: try out Zombify first. Snap a picture of yourself, pinpoint where your eyes and mouth are for the software, and you’re immediately given a snarling, decrepit version of yourself, complete with rotting death and empty eye sockets. You can then play around with different features, props, and filters and save the picture for posterity. While you’re at it, try out Wolfify and Vampify as well.

Carve-A-Pumpkin

You carve the same jack-o-lantern face every year and you’re scared to change. We understand. Changing up your design seems like a daunting task – what if you mess it up, or it doesn’t fit correctly, or it just ends up looking stupid? Luckily, there’s an app that will help you design your jack-o-lantern before you even pick out the perfect canvas. Parent’s Magazine’s app, Carve-A-Pumpkin, lets you choose from five different pumpkin types, 18 eye shapes, seven nose shapes, and 15 mouth shapes, place and size them on your virtual pumpkin, and save a picture for reference. For the more ambitious, there’s a freehand carving option. Carve-A-Pumpkin is only available for Apple products. For a similar Android experience, try Pumpkin Carver.

Ghost Radar

Sure, everyone jokes about that old house on the corner being haunted. But what if it really is? It would be stupid to call the Ghost Hunters…..right? Before you take drastic measures, try downloading Ghost Radar, an app available in both the iTunes and Google Play stores. According to the app site, Ghost Radar has “various sensors” to detect paranormal activity. The app analyzes these readings and notifies you when interesting patterns emerge or if “interesting words have been detected.” Even if you don’t believe in ghosts (or that an app can give your phone the technology to detect EMS signals), try it out with a friend or two and see what you find. Or take it out at a haunted house and see what happens.

Scary Sounds

Convince your skeptical friends that those ghosts that Ghost Radar detected are really there…with a variety of spooky, Halloween-themed sound effects! Scary Sounds has 40 options ranging from “Casket” to “Wolves” to “Breathing.” This app really has every type of spooky sound you could possibly want – sorted into eight categories: Animals, Dead & Undead, Elemental, Human, Medieval, Mood, Screams & Roars, and Unnatural. Connect your phone to a speaker, secretly turn on “Poltergeist” and be ready for some horror-flick reactions.
