“I’ll have what she’s having.” Each week, we’ll ask local chefs and bartenders what’s trending right now on their menus. Sit back, relax and order wisely!

For the past nine years, Eastern Standard has been setting the bar and – like the name implies – setting a new standard for Boston’s restaurant scene. The always popular Kenmore Square restaurant dishes out some of the best fare and craft cocktails around. But if its been a while since you last paid a visit, let us refresh your memory.

Eastern Standard’s chef, Matt Garland, tells us that diners are really enjoying the restaurant’s crispy sweetbreads with house BBQ sauce.

“We’re basically prepping the sweetbreads in a similar way to fried chicken,” he explains. “They get soaked in buttermilk and Tabasco before getting fried and served over house-made barbecue sauce. The first time we tried the dish, Andrew Holden (ES’s General Manager) loved it, but thought we needed more of the sauce.” He adds, “I could just hear Sipsey from Fried Green Tomatoes in the back of my head saying ‘The secret’s in the sauce!’”

Here’s it is folks…

And given Eastern Standard’s impressive cocktail list, it wouldn’t be right to ignore the most popular drink as well.

According to Naomi Levy, bar manager at Eastern Standard, the Bodhi Tree is the most popular cocktail at the moment. “Perfect for the fall, this seasonal menu addition (created by Beverage Programs Liaison Bob McCoy) blends our house-made fig vermouth with Overproof rum and a hint of allspice and orange,” Levy tells BostInno. “You can practically see the leaves changing with each sip,” she adds.

Here’s the Bodhi Tree:

The cocktail contains House-made Fig Vermouth, Plantation Overproof Rum, St. Elizabeth’s Allspice Dram, Regan’s No. 6 Orange Bitters.
