On Monday, November 3, Mayor Menino will be laid to rest in his native neighborhood of Hyde Park. His funeral procession began at Faneuil Hall, where he lay in state on Sunday for the public to pay their last respects.

Several dignitaries will attend the funeral service at Most Precious Blood Parish, including Vice President Joe Biden, former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State John Kerry.

Some 1,000 friends and family will also cram the church, the same one Menino was baptized in years ago, a testament to the number of lives he touched and aided during his 20-years as Mayor of Boston and time spent as a City Councilor and community organizer.

The streets of Boston were chock full of residents and neighbors, many holding “Thank You Mayor Menino” signs in commemoration, lining the route his procession undertook. Starting at Faneuil Hall, it passed by City Hall – in essence his second home – as well as Boston University where he served as co-director for the newly founded Initiative on Cities after retiring from municipal politics and Roslindale Square the revitalization of which was the staple of his first campaign as for City Council.

You can view each of the locales dear to Menino’s larger than life heart on this map here.

Cardinal Sean O’Malley will lead the services at Most Precious Blood Parish. Menino will exit the church as Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” aptly plays in the background.
