If you counted all of the new bars that opened this year, you’d end up with a pretty huge number. But we’re positive that you don’t have the time to visit every best new spot in the U.S. Thankfully, one of the “Best New Bars in America” happens to be right in your backyard.

Thrillist has named Boston’s own Wink & Nod as one of America’s best new bars of 2014. And we think it’s safe to say that it’s certainly one of this year’s best new bars in Boston as well. The prohibition-era inspired speakeasy features innovative cocktails and plenty of tasty fare from their rotating culinary program.

Currently, the kitchen is helmed by Chef Josh Lewin of Bread & Salt. Previously, Wink & Nod’s kitchen was run by the Whisk pop-up team. Inside the restaurant, you’ll find a vintage-inspired ambiance illuminated with red and gold hues. And if you head to the bar on certain nights, you’ll find Scotch Club meetings and even monthly “Tiki Nights.”

Thrillist states: “Its lounge area looks like the den of your wealthy, weird, and eclectic aunt, and that’s not a bad thing — Aunt Lorraine was pretty sweet.” The article also points to Wink & Nod’s special cocktails, stating: “You’ll want to dance longest with the drinks (everything from the juices to cordials and infusions are made fresh in-house, daily), which they separate into ‘Up’, ‘Down’, ‘Long’, and ‘Tiki’…”.

If you haven’t paid a visit yet to the speakeasy, we think it’s worth a trip. Especially given that we also named Wink & Nod as one of Boston’s must-try restaurants this year. To learn more about the bar, check here.
