There’s something about 20 degree weather that really ignites our cravings for a grilled cheese sandwich. The simple comfort food (often accompanied with tomato soup) is a dish we all grew up with. And thankfully, it’s not hard to find in Boston restaurants.

Two of which landed in Food & Wine’s round-up for having the best grilled cheese sandwiches in the U.S. The list included 22 restaurants in the U.S. with the “Best Grilled Cheese,” and Boston was well represented.

The article names Roxy’s Grilled Cheese as having one of the best in the country. The food truck and brick-and-mortar restaurant creates some of Boston’s tastiest and most creative grilled cheese sandwiches. Food & Wine points to the Green Muenster and the Mac & Chorizo as being particularly delicious, noting that “in an ingenious twist, Roxy’s brushes mayonnaise on the outside of sandwiches, rather than butter, before slapping them on the griddle.”

The article also includes the beloved Formaggio Kitchen on its “Best Grilled Cheese” list. Food & Wine points to the shop’s cheesy panini, “Anna’s Big Jim, with ham, salami and cheddar or Swiss on local ficelle.” And notes that during the holiday season diners may also find other cheesy sandwiches with ingredients like “Comte Les Granges with Italian cipollini onion preserves … ”.
