Wondering what entertainment is worth your hard earned dollars this month? Maybe you’re set on making your rounds to all the Oscar-buzz movies before the awards show, but we’re going to make a case for live entertainment.

There is a lengthy list of headliners headed to Boston in January, each buzzworthy in their own right. Even if you’re balancing your schedule around all the TV premieres coming up over the next few weeks, get out there and take in a performance.

Here’s who’s coming through; start grabbing those tickets now.

Future Islands – January 7 – Royale – You might have caught Future Islands at September’s Boston Calling festival, as well as their lead single ‘Seasons,’ but now’s your chance to take in a full set from the band as they headline Royal. If you can hunt down tickets, the concert is tonight.

Patton Oswalt – January 7 – Wilbur Theater – Veteran comedian Patton Oswalt is headlining the Wilbur tonight, and if you recently caught his stand up special, “My Weakness Is Strong,” after it was released to stream on Netflix, you’re probably itching for some more from the alt-funny guy. Tonight at the Wilbur is the time.

A$AP Ferg & YG – January 12 – House of Blues – Rap artists A$AP Ferg and YG are uniting for the BestCoast Connection tour and heading into Boston on January 12 for a concert rescheduled from November. Tickets start at $29.50.

Neil deGrasse Tyson – January 14 & 15 – Wilbur Theater – Get schooled by scientist and “Cosmo” star Neil deGrasse Tyson when he headlines the Wilbur for two nights this month.

Dancing with the Stars – January 16 – Wilbur Theater – The cast of this past season of “Dancing with the Stars” will come to the Wilbur for a live dancing spectacular.

Sam Smith – January 17 – Agganis Arena – British vocalist Sam Smith exploded on the scene in 2014, drawing comparisons as the “male Adele,” and he’s continuing his reign into 2015. See him at Agganis Arena this month.

Seether and Papa Roach – January 18 – House of Blues – Veteran rock bands Seether and Papa Roach have joined forces to ring in a new year on a co-headlining tour.

Garth Brooks – January 22 – TD Garden – Country all-star Garth Brooks is embarking on a world tour, wearing his signature cowboy hat the whole way through.

Motion City Soundtrack – January 30 – Paradise Rock Club – Relive the glory days and catch Motion City Soundtrack at the Paradise, presented by Noise.

Pauly Shore – January 30 – Wilbur Theater – Pauly Shore is reviving his unique brand of comedy that catapulted him to stardom in the 90s. Catch his show live at The Wilbur at the end of the month – just don’t try to find any meaning it.

Demetri Martin – January 30 & 31 – Wilbur Theater – Comedian Demetri Martin is headlining two shows at the Wilbur this month, as part of his The Persistence of Jokes tour.

Dr. Dog – January 31 – House of Blues – Indie rock powerhouse Dr. Dog is headlining the House of Blues as part of their Flamingo Hotel tour.

Billy Idol – January 31 – Orpheum Theater – The legendary Billy Idol will take over The Orpheum, as part of his Kings and Queens of the Underground tour. Tickets are sold out, but Ticketmaster is hosting a resale list.

Point Break Live! – January 31 – The Sinclair – What’s better than rewatching “Point Break”? Seeing Point Break Live at The Sinclair. The parody of the 90s hit is coming to Boston for the first time, one night only to The Sinclair.
