Awards season is in full swing, and the 2015 Golden Globes are screening Sunday, January 11 at 8 p.m. Hosted again by everyone’s favorite best friends Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, the show is often a strong indicator as to what films and actors are in the running for an Academy Award, along with the top TV series and performers from the past year.

Films and series who received Golden Globe nominations this year include “Boyhood,” “Foxcatcher” and “Selma,” along with “House of Cards,” “Game of Thrones” and “True Detective.” And while the nominees are of the best in entertainment, the awards show is a laid back affair, especially with Poehler and Fey holding the reigns. Last year, Poehler, who was raised in Burlington, Mass. and graduated from Boston College, pulled out this one-liner in reference to nominee series “Masters of Sex”: Masters of Sex is the degree I got from Boston College.

This year, Poehler isn’t the only celebrity attending the Golden Globes with ties to Boston. In fact, five nominees were born in the city, along with a few more stars who have spent time in the area.

Edward Norton – Nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role as the method actor Mike Shiner in “Birdman,” Edward Norton was born in Boston in 1969. Although he was raised in Maryland, Norton returned to New England to attend Yale, graduating in 1991.

James Spader – James Spader is up for an award for his role as Raymond Reddington, a U.S. Navy official-turned-criminal, on “The Blacklist,” which premiered in fall of 2013. Spader was born in Boston in 1960, and attended The Pike School in Andover, Mass. as well as the Brooks School in North Andover, before moving to New York City.

Taylor Schilling – The “Orange is the New Black” star is nominated for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy, a nod to her performance as WASPy inmate Piper Chapman on the Netflix original series. Schilling was born in Boston in 1980, and grew up in both West Roxbury and Wayland, and she graduated from Wayland High School before moving to New York City to attend Fordham.

Uzo Aduba – The actress best known for her role as Crazy Eyes on “Orange is the New Black” (and nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Series) is another Bostonian. Aduba was born in Boston and raised in Medfield, where she graduated from high school, and graduated from Boston University after participating on the track and field team.

Allison Janney – Nominated for her role on the new TV series “Mom,” Janney was born in Boston in 1959, but raised in Dayton, Ohio.

Bonus celebrities:

Julian Moore, nominated for Best Actress for her role in “Still Alice,” attended Boston University and graduated in 1983; Steve Carell, nominated for Best Actor for his film “Foxcatcher,” was born in Concord, Mass.; Louis C.K. was born in Washington, D.C. but raised in Newton, Mass.; and Emily Blunt, nominated for Best Actress for the musical “Into the Woods,” is married to John Krasinski, who was born and raised in Newton, which definitely counts.

There you have it! Root for all the Bostonians representing this Sunday at the Golden Globes.
