On Thursday afternoon at 12 p.m., Charlie Baker will be sworn in as the 72n Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A Republican, Baker and his Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito will be take the oath of office in inside the Massachusetts House of Representatives Chamber. Though Baker and Polito will will officially take up their Beacon Hill positions at noon, their Thursday morning is just as busy. Beginning at 11 a.m. Baker will start glad-handing the people gathered around and beneath the gilded dome. He’ll also receive an honorary 19-gun salute, courtesy of the Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment National Guard.

Expected to be in attendance are fellow big-name Republicans such as Chris Christie, Governor of New Jersey, and Mitt Romney, former Governor of Massachusetts and two-time presidential candidate.

After being sworn in, Baker and Polito will address the Massachusetts public for the first time as Governor and Lieutenant Governor from the Grand Staircase, which Deval Patrick took the traditional “Lone Walk” down on his way out of office on Wednesday evening.
