You hear that, Boston? Snow. Heavy, wet snow. That’s what the Saturday forecast is looking like, with a major winter storm barreling its way up the Eastern seaboard.
Snowfall is expected to start during the overnight hours, sometime before dawn Saturday morning. Conflicting snow accumulations of 3 to 5, 4 to 8 and 6 to 8 inches have been projected for Boston, specifically. Areas further to the south and out towards the Cape are expected see the lowest totals; cities and towns west and north of Boston currently stand to receive the highest amounts.
The National Weather Service reports snow is likely to start falling after midnight Saturday and continue into the evening, accumulating at a rate of an inch or more per hour at times.
Wet and heavy snow may produce downed tree limbs and isolated power outages in some locations; slick sidewalks and streets could make for hazardous commutes in and around Boston. Along the Cape, flooding and strong wind gusts upwards of 40 to 50 mph are expected to cause the most trouble.
