Uber has announced it will suspend Boston service after 11:59 p.m. Monday night due to Winter Storm Juno.

“A major nor’easter is expected to hit Massachusetts tonight bringing heavy snow and wind over the next 2 days,” Uber said in an email to Boston riders Monday afternoon. “Governor [Charlie] Baker has declared a state of emergency, as well as a travel ban starting at midnight tonight (after 11:59pm, 1/26) that will prohibit any non-emergency vehicles from being on the roads.”

Gov. Baker announced the state of emergency at a Monday afternoon press conference. During the presser, the governor said, “I can’t stress this part enough: Please stay off the roads.”

Once the clock strikes midnight, all 10,000 Boston Ubers will be expected to stop accepting trips. Uber service will be suspended as long as the travel ban remains in effect.

Riders hailing trips between now and 11:59 p.m. Monday night will not be charged surge pricing rates higher than 2.9 times the normal fare for their trip.

BostInno reached out to Lyft – which will cap its Prime Time pricing at 200 percent the cost of a normal trip – to see if the company will also be suspending service at midnight; this post will updated if we hear back.
