At around 9:45 a.m. Monday morning a Weymouth, Mass. woman was struck by a snowplow and killed. The woman was in her 50s and her name has not yet been released.

According to a spokesman for the Norfolk District Attorney, police responded to a call for a “collision with a plow and a pedestrian” near the Tara Gardens condominiums.

The plow was not of the town but rather a privately contracted one and the operator is cooperating fully. No charges have been filed and both the Weymouth Police Department and Norfolk DA’s office are leading the investigation.

The news comes just as another winter storm sweeps the Greater Boston Area after Juno left 24 inches of snow in the city, and as much as 36 inches elsewhere in the state.

Gov. Charlie Baker, who issued a statewide travel ban and state of emergency for Juno, stated at one point that there were no fatalities recorded due to the storm. Local hospitals, including Massachusetts General, told BostInno that just a handful of patients were admitted for treatable blizzard-related injuries.

Sadly, this is the first fatality with a direct connection to the recent inclement weather. Here’s hoping it’s also the last.
