Gridlock traffic in the streets of Boston Tuesday evening during rush hour is bad.

So bad, it has forced state police to close Exit 24A towards Government Center off Interstate 93.

Traffic in and out of Boston appears to be at a complete standstill. If Google Maps (see: above) could talk, one wonders how it would describe the current standstill; there’s just no way it would be able to tell someone the bad news without sounding unsympathetic.

That’s a loaded question, Chris McKinnon. But the long and short of it is: Boston has seen record amounts of snow in a short period of time. When there’s more than 40 inches of snow piled up across the city that needs to be removed, things tend to come to a standstill.

It’s a vicious cycle.

Here’s what people are saying on Twitter about the Tuesday evening commute.
