Boston Globe cartoonist Dan Wasserman summed up more than a week’s worth of MBTA weather-related debacles and more Olympics talk in six drawings.
The editorial cartoon was published Thursday; the Globe only needed to use five words to describe it: “From hurdles to parallel bars.”
Wasserman’s cartoon isn’t just a commentary on the winter trials and tribulations T riders face on a daily basis – it’s a commentary on the state of Boston in the aftermath of historic winter snowfall, which has crippled an already crumbling transit system.
The one thing Wasserman’s cartoon is missing: quotes from athletes for each event. Below readers will find possible suggestions, served up on Twitter.
“The Bus Hurdles”
Standing in 1 degree weather at bus stop. 73 bus comes up and slows down. When I walk towards it, it speeds up and takes off. #mbta

“The T Stop Luge”
It’d be nice if the MBTA salted the platforms so I didn’t slip and fall on my ass this morning…it hasn’t snowed in days #getittogether

“The Parallel Bars”
At least a crowded @MBTA train is a warm train. @WGBH news pic.twitter.com/9MFPvFl6PN

“The Decathlon”
@ChrisSaysThis woke up early, checked mbta orange line delays, waited outside for alternate bus for 50 mins. Froze. Gave up. Walked home.
