Whether you’re single or coupled off, I think we can all agree that Valentine’s Day was way better in Elementary school. Cut-out cards, secret admirers and candy hearts were the name of the game. Now, we’re left to fend for ourselves – making dinner reservations and buying flowers – or, if you’re single, celebrating with friends.

But one thing we absolutely refuse to do this Valentine’s Day is solo wine drinking in our apartment. Here are five things to do in Boston if you happen to be single this Valentine’s Day. All you’ll need are a few good friends!

Area Four’s Haters Valentine’s Day Party

500 Technology Square, Cambridge

Calling all the Valentine’s Day haters out there! Area Four is hosting its fourth annual Haters Valentine’s Day party this coming Saturday, Feb. 14. Diners can expect dishes like Arrabbiata “Angry” Pizza, Jerked Chicken and Irate Rice, and Skewered Lamb Neck with Garlic Beans and Greens. In addition to the anti-lovers food specials, Area Four will also be featuring a special (and oh-so-emo) heartbreak playlist. For more information, check here.

The Naked at the Art Museum Scavenger Hunt

Museum of Fine Arts, 465 Huntington Avenue, Boston

Grab your single friends and join the Watson Adventures this coming Friday, Feb. 13 at the MFA for its Naked at the Art Museum Scavenger Hunt. According to the description, participants will “take an unblushing look at nudity in art at the Museum of Fine Arts including the spectacular new Art of the Americas wing. You’ll scrutinize such things and scenes as paintings, sculptures, period rooms … ” and more. The event is open to adults only. For more information, check here.

Thorns at ImprovBoston

40 Prospect St, Cambridge

Need some laughter in your life? The always hilarious ImprovBoston will be hosting “Thorns,” a comedy mocking heartbreak, love and of course, Valentine’s Day. The hour and a half show will include rants, monologues, original songs, and short films from comedians across the country. Tickets costs $18 and are available here.

Love Sux at Howl at the Moon

184 High St, Boston

For the true Valentine’s Day haters out there, we suggest heading to Howl at the Moon’s annual Love Sux party this Valentine’s Day. And for those who show up with a torn or destroyed photo of their ex, the party is free of charge. Guests can expect drink specials, games and plenty of live music. For more information, check here.
