Seven police officers and firefighters from Watertown will receive the Medal of Valor for saving lives during the notorious street firefight with alleged Boston Marathon bombers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

According to the Associated Press, Watertown’s finest are part of a 22-public servant cohort to receive the highest national award for public safety. Vice President Joe Biden and Attorney General Eric Holder will be present at the ceremony taking place at the White House.

MassLive reports “the recipients from Watertown are Sgt. John MacLellan; Sgt. Jeffrey Pugliese; officer Joseph Reynolds; officer Timothy Menton; officer Miguel Colon Jr.; firefighter James Caruso; and firefighter Patrick Menton.”

According to WCVB, Caruso and Menton risked their lives to save MBTA Police Officer Dick Donahue who was wounded during the early morning shootout days after the Marathon bombing took place.

Tamerlan, the older of the two Tsarnaev brothers, was killed in the fray but Dzhokhar was subsequently captured while hiding out in a resident’s boat and now faces several federal charges some of which carry the weight of capital punishment.

Dzhokhar’s trial is in the jury selection phase, which has been put on hold multiple times due to weather issues, and the trial proper is expected to begin sometime in February.
