Washio, a Santa Monica-based laundry and dry cleaning app, launched in Boston, Cambridge and Somerville in November, providing the Hub a streamlined pick-up service for its dirty clothes.

Months after entering the Boston market, Washio has updated and rolled out Washio 3.0, which comes with an important update: expedited service.

Washio works by having its customers gather their dirty laundry, place an order by selecting a pick-up and drop-off location and time (between 6:30 a.m. and 9 p.m.), and then wait. Washio’s “ninjas” then come pick up the laundry and return it in no more than 24 hours, freshly washed and folded.

Now, with the update, Washio’s ninjas will arrive to pick up the items within one hour, ensuring that you have the items returned in the 24 hours from when you first place the order. The update in quick pick-ups comes at no extra cost:  In Boston, a wash and fold still costs $1.70/lb., pressed shirts cost $2.75 each, and dry cleaned items run between $7.95 and $16 each. The order minimum is $20, and orders under $35 are subject to a $3.99 fee. All transactions are done on the app, which is free to download.
