Mayor Marty Walsh announced Thursday afternoon four finalists for Superintendent of Boston Public Schools.

The candidates for the position – which has been occupied on an interim basis by John McDonough since May, 2013 – are Dr. Dana Bedden, the current Superintendent of Richmond Public Schools in Virginia; Dr. Tommy Chang, the Local Instructional Superintendent, Intensive Support & Innovation Center at the Los Angeles Unified School District; Guadalupe Guerrero, the Deputy Superintendent of Instruction, Innovation, and Social Justice for San Francisco Unified School District; and Pedro Martinez, a Superintendent-in-Residence for the Nevada Department of Education…

… Not former Red Sox pitcher, Major League Baseball Hall of Fame-elect Pedro Martinez.

Carol R. Johnson was the last to hold the BPS Superintendent position on a permanent basis. Johnson stepped down as BPS head in April, 2013.

State House News reporter Gintautas Dumicus reported the finalists on Twitter, posting a tweet which included a screenshot of the press release from the Mayor’s Office.
