Whether you think doughnuts are a staple breakfast or a fleeting fad, it’s hard to argue with their status as a comfort good. Some natives hold up locally-made Dunkin’ Donuts as the standard by which all other glazed pastries are measured. Others, like the professional baker seen in the video below, have converse opinions of the company America runs on.

According to StarChefs, Nicole Rucker knows what she’s talking about – she’s a pastry chef for the Gjelina group in Venice and a National Pie Championship Blue Ribbon winner, after all.

So when it comes to sweet snacks like the almighty doughnut, it’s not surprising she didn’t pull any punches.

In the BuzzFed video shown above, Rucker taste tests five popular doughnut brands including Dunkin’.

First up was Hostess doughnuts, which made her sad because of the peculiar film it left on the top of her mouth – 2 star rating out of 5.

Then came Entenmann’s which gave off an oil-like smell and had a strangely soggy bottom – 1 star.

Third up was Winchell’s which fared the best out of the five. It was plump thanks to the properly risen dough, the spices used were visible to they eye and tasted well enough to earn 5 stars.

But before Krispy Kreme underperformed with a 1 star rating, Rucker gave Dunkin’ Donuts a taste and, well, things got a little sad.

“It smells almost like nothing which is really weird,” said Rucker of the glazed doughnut. “Umm, ok, so it smells like it’s got some fake stuff in it, like fake vanilla. It’s got a good texture, though, in terms of like the squish and stuff. But there’s a really, odd bitter flavor.”

She added, “This doughnut probably gets like a 2.”

Time to level with us, Boston. Are you a fan of Dunkin’ Donuts doughnuts and will defend them to the grave, or do you agree with Rucker that they’re fake, odorous and bitter?
