Uber. Legal Sea Foods. And New England clam chowder.
Yes, UberCHOWDER is happening from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. In an email to Boston users, Uber announced plans to deliver “our favorite iconic New England comfort food – clam chowder from Legal Sea Foods.”
Those interested in having a “Chowder Chariot” deliver two 12 oz. bowls of creamy clam chowder to wherever – the apartment, the office, a favorite outdoor dining spot – will have five hours to open the Uber app on their phones, select the CHOWDER option, and enter their request. A minimum of two bowls is required for delivery, and no more than six can be ordered. Each bowl costs $10.
For every bowl delivered Uber and Legal Sea Foods will donate $1 to the Greater Boston Food Bank. Also, Uber says in the email: “Five lucky winners will find a Golden Spoon with their chowder, along with $100 in Uber credit AND a $100 Legal Sea Foods gift card!”
The question is: do people want their clam chowder delivered? Well, let’s just say, Bostonians’ response has been mixed.
@NBoroyan @BostInno if it’s hot and doesn’t require reheating in the office microwave.

@NBoroyan I, for one, wouldn’t want to ride in the Uber that was delivering clam chowder all day after 4 PM today @berkie1 @BostInno

@NBoroyan @BostInno i definitely do, depends if I want to spend $10 or not.

@NBoroyan Yes, but not from Legal.

@NickDeLuca1 @NBoroyan 100% this.

@NBoroyan @berkie1 @BostInno Can you meet them at the corner? No one wants Uber drivers to know where they live.

UberCHOWDER isn’t the first – and likely won’t be the last – food-related promo campaign the ride-sharing company has launched in Boston. (See: UberIceCream).
And, as Uber’s Matt Wing just pointed out in an email, UberHEALTH, though a promo effort, is not a food-related one, as was originally suggested.
Now let’s see how many UberCHOWDER delivery requests are accepted and, more importantly, are actually completed.

Author’s note: I actually like Legal Sea Foods clam chowder; in fact, I kind of grew up on the stuff. Am I the weirdo? Whatever.
