Patriots’ Day is less than a month away and in Boston, that only means one thing: The Boston Marathon. April 20, 2015 marks this year’s 26.2-mile race and the Boston Athletic Association just came out with the official start times.
Some 30,000 participants will take to the pavement for Marathon Monday, including 4 waves of 7,500 runners as well, mobility impaired and push-rim wheelchair.
In 2014, Meb Keflezighi, an American, took the top spot in the Men’s Elite division with a time of 2:08:37. He was the first American since 1985 (first American male since 1983) to win the Marathon – a truly inspiring effort given that the year prior Bostonians suffered through the tragic bombings that claimed the lives of 3 and injured 264.
The 2014 women’s winner was Rita Jeptoo of Kenya, who set the women’s course record that year. In January 2015, however, it was confirmed through a blood test taken in September that Jeptoo had been using a blood-boosting drug. She received a two-year ban from sports as a consequence.
