Business school is stressful. For Hult International Business School students pursuing an accelerated one-year Master or MBA degree, the intensity of a fast-paced program can cause even the most organized to feel pressure. How do students handle the stress and succeed in their studies? Read on for insider tips from Hult alumni.

1. Pick your priorities.

Stefano Picker (MBA ‘14) shared how, in addition to the material learned in courses like Finance and Marketing, students must learn how to prioritize tasks and manage their time. “Hult is a marathon, not a sprint,” commented Picker, so the sooner you learn how to effectively manage your time, the more likely you are to consistently excel in your tasks. Identifying important deadlines and scheduling smaller due dates beforehand can help you pace your work and ensure that everything is completed on time.

2. Take care of yourself.

“A healthy body is just as important as a well-prepared mind,” commented Kym Pesola (MIM ‘14). Many Hult students look to exercise as a means to keep both the mind and body active. Pesola took long bike rides during which she could be outdoors and do some undisrupted thinking. Alan Newton (EMBA ‘14) would schedule time at the gym and started practicing meditation. The Art of Living Club regularly organizes yoga and meditation sessions on the Boston campus to help students focus on wellness. In San Francisco, students participate in basketball tournaments to get a break from their studies and engage in team building with classmates (as well as some friendly competition).

3. Seek support.

“The business school environment is a learning environment where you are surrounded by like-minded individuals who are there to support and encourage you,” said Alan Newton. Although you may feel overwhelmed, the reminder that there are others who are feeling the same can be a relief in itself. Classmates form study groups and share strategies. This way, students learn from classes as well as each other. Hult Student Services at the Boston campus organizes Stress Less Week during which healthy snacks and massages are offered as well as wellness and stress management talks with counselors who are available for students year-round.
