Happy Marathon Monday (and Patriot’s Day), folks! The 119th Boston Marathon officially kicked off this morning with over 30,000 runners set to make their way across the challenging 26.2 mile long route. As for the rest of us – we’ll be cheering on our friends and loved ones from the sidelines. For those of you looking to track your favorite Marathon athlete, here are two ways to stay up-to-date with your runner’s progress throughout the day.

AT&T Athlete Alerts by Text & Email

First and foremost, to find out your friend’s bib number check the B.A.A. website’s Entry List. You can look it up right in their database.

Once you have the bib number, you can text it to 234567 using your U.S. mobile phone. You will then receive a text response with instructions on how to submit a runner’s bib number. You can also receive email updates by registering on the race website. Sign-up by entering an email address for email updates. You can register here.

These alerts will tell you when your athlete has crossed the following points on the course: 10K, Half-Marathon (13.1 miles), 30K, 35K, 40K and the Finish Line.

The Boston Marathon Mobile App

We also recommend downloading the Boston Marathon mobile app to keep up with your runner’s progress. The 2015 Boston Marathon mobile app, powered by AT&T is now available in the App Store. All you have to do is search “Boston Marathon,” or update the 2014 version on your mobile device. According to the B.A.A.’s website, mobile app users will be able to follow up to 10 people on race day. The mobile app also includes a maps section for mile-by-mile course information, as well as locations of hydration stations and nearby public transportation stops.
