Alternative mode of transportation Bridj continues to expand its user base in Boston. On Tuesday the start-up announced it will be expanding its service into Brighton and Washington Square in Brookline in June 1.

Brighton and Washington Square border two other Bridj – the pop-up bus operation that uses big data to determine where to pick up users and drop them off in lie of traditional routes – service areas: Allston and Coolidge Corner.

“When we started service in June of 2014, it was right in Brookline,” stated Bridj in a blog post. It added:

Since then, we’ve seen huge demand for Bridj in the surrounding areas. In the last 5 months, and have seen tens of thousands of app downloads. Our long time passengers have shown us incredible support and loyalty, and we’re happy to increase the service to provide many of these folks a pickup and drop-off locations that gets them even closer to their front door. Plus, we’ll also be able to reach new riders in an area of our city that has seen explosive population growth over the past few years.

This year alone, Bridj added service to the South End, kicked off its second city service in Washington D.C., and simultaneously launched a new mobile app with evening service.

With the addition of Brighton and Washington Square, Bridj now tends to passengers in the Back Bay, Financial District, South Boston Seaport and Kendall Square in Cambridge as well.

“I attribute all of the growth and success Bridj has had so far to the team that Matt [George, founder CEO] put together,” said Ryan Kelly, marketing manager over at Bridj. “Everyone is incredibly passionate about their work and cares deeply about creating a better way to travel throughout the city.”
