Samsung announced its plans this morning for two upcoming, though strikingly mediocre, tablets to some rather unenthusiastic fanfare. Things may take a sharp turn, however, after Samsung fan site SamMobile revealed plans for a new Nexus 11 tablet, though no word yet on date or price.

SamMobile has proved to be a respectable source concerning the South Korean tech company, and has gotten its hands on plenty of leaked specs and pics. This time SamMobile published some of Samsung’s tablet plans for 2013, with a brief overview of potential specifications.

The collaborative team of Samsung and Google have produced a number of user-friendly gadgets over recent years, some debuting to higher reviews than others. The Nexus brand appears more successful in the tablet realm, with Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 often considered neck-and-neck with chief rival Apple’s iPad series, though the Galaxy Nexus phones seem merely so-so.

If SamMobile is correct, we could be looking at tablet the likes of which we haven’t seen. The Nexus 11 could be equipped with an eight (yeah count ‘em. Eight) core processor, though GigaOM is quick to point out that “they’re not all high performing processors. Instead, four are cutting edge Cortex-A15 cores for heavy duty activities while the other quartet are Cortex-A7 cores to offload lighter tasks and save on power consumption.” The processors are thought to be produced by Exynos.

Still, it could be that 8 processors are better than two. Either way this device is poised to pack some power. Couple that with an 11-inch PLS TFT display (translation? An absolutely crystal clear screen), an 8mp rear-facing camera, a 2mp front-facing camera, and a microSD slot for additional storage and it looks like we’ve got a gadget made in UI heaven.

The jury is still out on a launch date, operating system, and price but be sure to check back with BostInno for the latest updates. It’s still too early to tell whether this is the tablet-of-all-tablets or a complete bust, but I’m putting my money on something closer to the former than the latter.
