Leaked details about Sony’s new smartphone, tentatively called Honami, show that the Japanese electronics giant is on the same plane as Nokia and HTC in terms of developing a handset with high-end photo technology. The Honami will follow up its Android-run brethren Xperia Z and ZL with a 20 megapixel camera, calling this imagery innovation as Cyber-Shot.

The Cyber-Shot lens will feature premium grade G Lens glass and incorporate a 1/1.6″ Exmor RS stacked sensor. Essentially a larger sensor allows for a greater capture of light photons which in turn leads to clearer shots, the ability to snap pics in low-light areas, and provide a more stabilized photo when on the move.

According to GottaBeMobile, “Sony is no stranger to camera technology on mobile. In the past, under its old partnership with Ericsson, Sony Ericsson had released some great feature phones with excellent cameras, including models with Xenon flash.” Seeing as how smartphones are beginning to roll out with higher-grade camera technology, its no wonder Sony is tossing its hat into the ring having already partnered with Ericsson.

As for the phone itself, the Honami is likely to boast a 4.8-inch 1080p display powered by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and a battery capacity somewhere between 2700 and 3000 mAh. As for the rest, we’ll have to wait and see.

Like more early leaks, this one comes without a price though it’s thought that the Honami will make its appearance here sometime by the end of August. Keep checking back with BostInno for the latest on the Honami.

If what we know from the specs are correct, this will certainly be a powerful device but the big draw is the camera. As of now, it could very well be the best and most user-friendly camera on the smartphone market as more rumors are circulating that a new UI will be tacked on as well, meaning absolute blissfulness for amateur photographers.
