A Google+ Hangout was the venue of choice for the release of the trailer for upcoming star-studded film Ender’s Game. The Hangout allowed for a viewing of the new two-minute trailer to be accompanied with a video stream of director Gavin Hood, producer Bob Orci, and actor Asa Butterfield discussing the film and answering questions submitted by viewers. The film is based on the 1985 sci-fi novel of the same name by Orson Scott Card.

The A-list cast features the likes of Academy Award winner Ben Kinglsey (who also co-starred in the blockbuster Iron Man 3, the second highest domestic film opening of all time) as well as  Academy Award nominees Harrison Ford, Viola Davis, Abigail Breslin, and Hailee Steinfeld.

The film itself looks to be full of eye-popping special effects, plenty of plot twists, and looks to do justice to the much-celebrated and highly-touted novel. Hood previously directed X-Men Origins: Wolverine, proving that he can direct his fair share of high-budget action movies. The budget for Ender’s Game is reportedly $110 million.

According to popular movie aggregator site IMDB, the synopsis of the film is described as “70 years after a horrific alien war, an unusually gifted child is sent to an advanced military school in space to prepare for a future invasion.” That unusually gifted child is 16-year old Butterfield as protagonist Ender Wiggin whose likely to be taught by the characters played by silver-screen legends Kingsly and Ford.

The thriller is set to be released in the U.S. on November 1 of this year, though will debut as early as October 25 worldwide. More action-packed trailers are sure to surface in the meantime, so be sure to keep checking back with BostInno for the latest Ender’s Game updates.

Being unfamiliar with the novel and film developments, I’m hoping to hear from some fans out there. How good is the book? Do you think the assembled ensemble will do justice to the novel? Let us know your thoughts below.
