Fool me once Sony, shame on me. Fool me twice, well, you know the old adage. Hopefully this isn’t the case with your new mysterious 13-inch Ultrabook slider. After all, your first attempt at a tablet/laptop hybrid garnered some rather scathing reviews. But before we jump the gun, lets take a look at what your surprise YouTube video has to offer.

Today a YouTube video featuring an unannounced Sony device had many people wondering what kind of stunt Sony is trying to pull. We can’t so much speak for Sony’s intentions but we can advise on what the Japanese electronics giant is boasting.

The video is of a 13-inch Ultrabook slider, a Windows 8 hybrid with a keypad that slides behind and below the touchscreen essentially becoming both a tablet and a laptop. Though the YouTube account that uploaded the video isn’t Sony’s and there’s been no word otherwise on specs, we’ll take what’s under the slider’s hood with a grain of salt.

Apparently the slider’s display is a 1080p Triluminos touchscreen, has a battery life that spans 10-hours at a time, features near field communication capabilities (NFC), has a backlit keypad, sports an Exmor RS 8mp camera, and runs on an Intel core i5 processor. If the gossipy video is true, the slider will also offer 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD.

Seems impressive enough but I’m not totally convinced yet. The ill-fated VAIO Duor II turned out to be a bust and this unnamed slider doesn’t appear to deviate much from its predecessor. Also the video is grainy and amateurish, making me wonder where exactly it came from. But, according to Engadget, “Allegedly, the video is being used for training at UK retail chain Dixons,” which would make sense seeing has how the YouTube account that uploaded the video is also based out of the United Kingdom.

Perhaps this is some kind of weak-sauced marketing ploy by Sony or its just a complete fabrication. Either way, slider’s are an intriguing device with the potential to offer absolute convenience in comparison to tablets and laptops on their own. So naturally, we’ll be keeping a sharp eye on Sony’s unique gadget.

Keep checking back with BostInno for the latest updates about the device. In the meantime, let’s hear from you. Do you think the slider is legit?
