The new trailer for Alfonso Cuarón’s upcoming film Gravity is likely to make little kids question if they really want to be an astronaut. The outer space set flick stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as two astronauts who upon appearing to repair their shuttle, are bombarded by some unknown cluster of debris (a meteor shower perhaps?) and must somehow make their way back to Earth. Aside from a few quick shots of the astronauts trying to cling to something before being sucked into the mysterious vacuum that is space, the synopsis likewise is something of a mystery at this point. The full Gravity trailer is below.

Cuarón’s movie boasts an $80 million budget so expect plenty of eye-popping explosions to go along with plenty of plot-driven what-if scenarios. Gravity is expected to his the big screen on October 4 and will be available in 3D and IMAX 3D.

Director and co-writer Alfonso Cuarón, who collaborated with his son on the screenplay, is no stranger to the futuristic, sci-fi genre having helmed the 2006 critically acclaimed thriller Children of Men and the box office smash Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. He also directed the controversial foreign film Y Tu Mamá También.

Any movie headlined with two Oscar winners is sure to do well, especially if one of them is my boy George Clooney. Put him and a space drama up on an emormous IMAX screen and I’m definitely in. But who else out there is going to see Gravity? Do you need a little bit more about the movie’s plotline before committing? Or does the lack of plot in the new trailer make the movie even more enticing?
