It’s true that the Facebook Home has been downloaded close to a million times on Android devices, but the first smartphone to launch with the app is likely to be discontinued after only a month in the game. In an unforgiving move by AT&T, which carries the HTC First (a.k.a Facebook Phone), the price of the handset dropped dramatically from the contracted price of $99 to $0.99.

The Facebook Phone garnered scathing reviews after users noted it became too deeply integrated in their devices, was difficult and annoying to navigate, and sucked up too much battery life too quickly.

Facebook has been rumored to be developing a smartphone for years and it looks like Zuck and his team of enginerds (I’m coining this term) struck out their first time up to bat.

The news comes from BGR which claims to have some anonymous inside source that attests to the discontinuing. So of course, the isn’t any validation to the rumor though the price slip-and-slide of the HTC first could certainly be a bold indicator of things to come.

According to Zuck, approximately 20% of time spent on mobile devices is subsequently spent on Facebook, so  its only natural that he’d want to capitalize on such a large built-in audience. The only surprising thing is the overkill which isn’t really apparent when using Facebook via a desktop or laptop. For a phone though, it’s just too much too soon.

Where Facebook and its HTC First brethren look to go from here is currently up in the air but I’m curious as to what Zuck is cooking up in the FB kitchen. As of now, the Facebook Home app is currently sitting at a 2.3 stars out of 5 in Google Play, the search engine giant’s app marketplace, which is better, though barely, than it was on April 29th.

I’m curious to hear from the HTC First users out there, both lovers and haters alike. Lets get your impressions on Facebook Home and what you enjoy or detest about it. Drop your knowledge on us in the comments section below.
