It’s been a busy week for consumer tech. Nokia, BlackBerry, and Google all developer conferences to showcase their latest gadgets so its likely you might have missed the latest from Apple. The iPad mini 2 with retina display, the supposed next-generation iPad mini, had some of its specs leaked yesterday during the annual Google I/O. The iPad Mini 2 is likely to carry the curious new iOS 7 and the iPad Mini 2 release date is expected in the fall.

The specs don’t appear to deviate much from the iPad mini 2’s predecessor, though it looks to have a highers screen resolution and pixel density, as well as a more powerful processor. Duth leak site MobiLeaks reports that the alleged iPad mini 2 will have a 7.9-inch retina display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 and a pixel density of 324ppi. It may be powered by an A6X processor, whereas the iPad Mini only carries an A5X.

There seems to be plenty of internal storage with device options of 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. Expect two cameras, an 8mp rear-facing one and a 2mp front-facing. The entire device looks to be about 7.5mm thick.

There’s still no definite word yet on memory, operating system,  price, battery, or release date though CEO Tim Cook made it abundantly clear that Apple will not release a product until at least September. Though this means that a next-generation iPad Mini will likely make an appearance at Apple’s WWDC event in June. The higher display resolution and bolstered processor mean the iPad mini 2 will need a hefty battery, which is what Geek.com thinks too noting that if the specs are correct, the iPad mini 2 is thicker than the Mini possibly due to a plumper battery.

So who out there is looking forward to a next-generation iPad mini 2 with retina display? What are you hoping will be improved on in comparison to the original iPad Mini? Are the Bruins going to win tonight? Leave your thoughts below in the comments section.
