How about that ride in? If you took the T this morning, I can bet that ride wasn’t too pleasant. You deserve better. You deserve to be driven to work… for free. Beginning Tuesday, Uber Boston can do that for you. The on-demand car service company is offering its UBERx service to customers at absolutely no charge. UBERx is Uber’s cheaper option, costing around 40 percent less than Uber black cars. UBERx looks different, too — the vehicles are all hybrid and mid-range cars, such as Toyota Priuses and Honda Accords.

UBERx is free from Tuesday, June 4th to Thursday, June 6th at 8 p.m. To summon the free rides, simply open your Uber app and request an UBERx for the promotion to automatically apply. Rides will be covered for up to $20, but the company assures that most rides won’t cost more than $20. “Believe us – at these rates, $20 will get you far,” they write in an email.

As more competition for Uber continues to creep into the Boston market (see SideCar and Lyft), the company is also testing ridesharing on UBERx. For those of you unfamiliar, ridesharing is the practice of average car owners offering up rides in their vehicles to others in the community. Drivers are vetted for safety and insurance, and as Uber ensures, “From your perspective, nothing should change – except for more cars on the road and shorter wait times!”
