E3 has been ripe with new games thus far, each vying to be in the good graces of whichever console proves to reign supreme in the heated battle between Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The aforementioned games will each be included, with the notable exception of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze which was developed specifically for the fast-fading Nintendo Wii U. Here’s what to expect from each game.

FIFA 14

This popular soccer fútbol game will sport the great Lionel Messi on its cover and will likely show off its new career mode features today. Additions include a Global Scouting Network through most countries, which allows you to hire a scout to search for talent all season long from various clubs around the world and a newly redesigned Career Mode hub  for easier navigation, fewer interruptions and live scouting reports.

Be sure to keep a look out for improvements sparked by the all-new Ignite engine which boasts improvements to rendering, run-time physics, animation, intelligence, locomotion, and online systems. EA says the engine is capable of portraying athletes with “human-like intelligence,” as well as “living worlds” for stadiums and arenas. Expect a release date on current-gen consoles in September and next-gen upon their release, with the exception of course of Nintendo’s Wii U.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Following up 2010’s Donkey Kong Country Returns also by Retro Studios, Tropical Freeze centers on a group of Viking animals who invade Donkey Kong Island, chasing its inhabitants to another far-off island. Along with his sidekicks Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong, Donkey Kong travels across five islands, fighting a variety of enemies to return to and reclaim his home.

To be released on Wii U in November, DK Tropical Freeze will be an attempt by Nintendo to up its game in the perpetual gaming wars. Focusing more on game-play software than console hardware could be Nintendo’s bread and butter, especially at this point in time, as sales are in the toilet. Revamping classic games like DK is certainly a step in the right direction.

Halo: Spartan Assault

The latest installment in the ever-popular dorm room staple Halo series, Spartan Assault will be the first in the franchise to be made solely for touch-enabled devices, more specifically Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 devices in July. Taking place between the events of Halo 3 and Halo 4,  tt follows the early Spartan Ops’ missions against the Covenant alien species and gives more background to the human-Covenant conflict. Game-play is through the perspective of either Commander Sarah Palmer or Spartan Davis.

Interestingly feature-wise, game-play of Spartan Assault will earn the player experience points, achievements, and emblems for their Halo 4 Spartan career.
