The official trailer for the upcoming movie The Wolf of Wall Street starring Leonardo DiCaprio was released last night and, simply put, looks awesome. Leo teamed up with director Martin Scorsese for the fifth time in what looks to follow the success, both critically and at the box office, of Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, and Shutter Island. Currently in post-production, the movie is expected to hit theaters in November of this year.

The movie is about a young and ambitious ’90s Wall Street stockbroker who makes his millions illegally a la Gordon Gekko. Of course, his insatiable appetite for the superficial brings him to close brushes with the law, though his sheer greed and penchant for corporate climbing allow him to evade the authorities and continue with his lavish life of luxury and further his growing taste for the extravagant.

The film stars DiCaprio as the main character with Jonah Hill as his apparent partner in crime and Matthew McConaughey as a ditzy yet mentor-like figure to Leo’s character Jordan Belfort.

The perfect follow up to the  timeless Jazz Era adaptation of The Great Gatsby, Leo is again a voracious character with deep pockets made by off-the-books wheeling and dealing. The flick will fuse two polarizing aspects of his exceptionally wide range, that of a character with a muddled sense of moral ambiguity (Gatsby, Django UnchainedRevolutionary Road, I could go on but you get the idea) with that of an authoritative perfectionist who refuses to relinquish power or his own selfish agenda (J. Edgar, Inception, Blood Diamond, etc.).

A DiCaprio-Scorsese collaboration means silver screen genius per usual and with the supporting role prowess of Hill and McConaughey, it can only get better.

Just watch the trailer and look at how much fun the movie looks. Scorsese’s signature quick-cutting scenes with DiCaprio’s explosive character portrayals will keep viewers on the edge of the seats begging for more, and the duo is certainly apt to deliver. I’m calling it right now: Leo finally takes home a much-deserved and long-awaited statue. The movie is expected to hit theaters November 2013.
