If you missed last week’s Time Magazine, “Gods of Food” debacle, let’s get you up to speed. The November 18 issue of TIME, intended to be a “celebration of tastemakers” within the international food community, sparked controversy over its cover story,“The Gods of Food: Meet the People Who Influence What (and How) You Eat.” The controversy came out of the fact that only four women were included in the round-up of “influential tastemakers,” and none of them were chefs.

The food community reacted almost immediately to the lack of ‘goddess’ chefs on the list with websites and food bloggers questioning the article. TIME’s Editor, Howard Chuo-Eoan, explained to Eater.com, “We did not want to fill a quota of a woman chef … But wanted to go with reputation and influence.” The editor defended the issue stating “there was no attempt to exclude women … We just went with the basic realities of what was going on and who was being talked about.”

In response, we’ve decided to round-up some of Boston’s own ‘goddesses of food.’ And while we realize it’s nearly impossible to include all of the talented women chefs in the Boston area, we’ve taken the liberty of compiling a few who we think you should know. These chefs are influencing your city’s culinary landscape and beyond. So get to know Boston’s 11 ‘Goddesses of Food’.
