Social Networking: data points from Yankee Group

  • 75%+ of CIOs encourage employees to use video conferencing at work
  • 60% of CIOs block IM and Facebook use at work

3DTVs: data points from Strategy Analytics

  • 34% of US homes will own a 3D-ready TV by 2014  (in Europe it will grow even faster, with 42% of homes owning a 3DTV by 2014)
  • Sales of 3D-enabled devices (TVs, Blu-ray players, phones, gaming consoles, etc.) are expected to grow 89% in 2011, to reach 95 million units
  • By 2014 the global installed base of 3D-enabled devices is projected to reach 900 million units

Smartphones: data points from IDC & Strategy Analytics

  • The worldwide smartphone market is expected to grow 50% in 2011 (IDC)
  • Worldwide smartphone operating system market shares for 2011 is projected as follows: Android 40%, Blackberry 15%, iOS 16%, Symbian 21%, WP7 5.5% (IDC)
  • Nokia’s smartphone market share in the US is projected to rebound to 10% by 2015 thanks to marketing support from Microsoft (SA)
  • Samsung’s smartphone market share in the US is projected to grow to 21% by 2015 thanks to Android (SA)
  • Apple (29%), Nokia (20%), RIM (15%) generated 64% of smartphone revenues in 2010 (SA)

Tablets: data points from IDC

  • 18M tablets were shipped in 2010 with Apple capturing an 83% share
  • Of the 18M, 10.1M shipped in Q4
  • In Q4 2010, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab was the biggest iPad competitor, capturing 17% of units shipped
  • Tablets are on pace to reach shipments of 50M units in the US in 2011

  • eCommerce is set to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 10% through 2015
  • eCommerce will reach $279B in the US
