Saying that it’s a scorcher out there is easily the biggest understatement of 2013. As temperatures in Boston soar past 90 degrees, you are in desperate need of some reprieve from the sun, and your AC-less apartment just isn’t going to cut it. We feel your pain, and to help, we’ve rounded up some tip and tricks to ride out this heat wave without breaking a sweat. Stay cool out there, Boston!

Makeshift AC – This trick will provide a brief but wondrous break from the heat. All you need is a fan, plastic bags and ice. Here’s instructions for the AC unit, via Yahoo!:

Put ice cubes in a medium size sandwich bag, and then place the bag of ice in a larger freezer bag. Poke a hole in the top of the freezer bag, put a piece of string through it and tie it to the front of a fan. Turn the fan on, and face it in your direction, it will blow cool air from the ice and keep you cool.

City pools & cooling centers – Mayor Tom Menino has been adamant about keeping residents cool during this miserable heat. The City of Boston is advising any and all to take advantage of cooling centers and public pools open throughout the Hub. Cold pillows – After a night in the heat, come home to a nice cool bed. Stick your pillows in the freezer for an hour or two — enough to cool them down but not enough to freeze them. At bedtime, your head will rest on a nice cool pillow, giving you relief from the heat… for the night, at least.

Rooftop bars – If you can’t beat the heat, why not spend some time in it? Below is a list of our favorite rooftop bars in and around Boston. Order yourself a tall beer or a frozen margarita and kick back while getting a tan.
