This year we covered some really cool product launches out of the greater Boston area. We had the opportunity to know the founders and leaders at these companies, picking their brains around the strategies that helped bring their products to market.

So if you’re looking to gift some of the most innovative items to come out of the Hub, look no further. Here are five products from Boston that will make for amazing gifts this holiday:

George Guest | “Pioneers of fine bags, luggage, and accessories”

From “VIDEO: George Guest Creating Next Evolution Backpacks” – If you’ve ever watched the show How to Make it in America on HBO, you know it can be tough to break into the fashion industry. It’s taken George Keeler and Alex Schultz two years to get their brand new line of patented-technology backpacks onto the market.

IdeaPaint | “Transforms any smooth surface into a high performance dry-erase writing surface”

From “5 Influential Inventions from Boston” – We are kind of obsessed with IdeaPaint here at BostInnovation, and that’s why we’re putting such an untried invention on the list. With IdeaPaint you can paint a whiteboard on almost any surface. That means no you can eliminate the trip to Staples or Bed, Bath and Beyond when decorating a classroom or your child’s bedroom.

Nella Pasta | “Fresh, handcrafted pasta made with local, seasonal ingredients”

From “Local Pasta Company is Finalist for DailyCandy Entrepreneur Contest” – A small company based in Boston is trying to dispel the notion that pasta is Italian, always eaten with sauce, and has a long shelf life. In addition to selling pasta at local farmers’ markets, you can find their pasta salad at the Equal Exchange Cafe in North End and City Feed and Supply in Jamaica Plain; they plan expand to other stores soon.

Vibram FiveFingers | “Discover the alternative”

From “Locally-based FiveFingers is Toe-ing the Line for Vibram” – The initial product was developed by an industrial designer in Italy, and Vibram USA collaborated with their Italian colleagues to develop it, but the sales and distribution of this product — which now includes multiple lines for everything from chilling out and driving to running in cold, wet conditions — is all done right here in the Bay State.

From “EXCLUSIVE: Mobile-Enabled Digital Photo Frame Dropping Soon!” – It’s what digital photo frames should have been when they hit the market years ago in that it lets you send and receive fresh photos via the AT&T 3G mobile network in minutes. Pics and images can be shared with a Vizit owner from mobile devices in about two minutes using Email or text message, and users will also be able to share photos through Flickr and Photobucket, or by uploading them to a browser-based account page called “VizitMe.”
