“A Day in the Life” is a series where we’ll profile a variety of residents to get an intimate glimpse into their day-to-day. These are your neighbors. Get to know them.

If you like spinning, chances are you’ve probably experienced one of the popular indoor cycling classes at The Handle Bar. Owner and instructor, Jessica Bashelor, opened the South Boston spinning studio just one year ago in June 2013. The entrepreneur has since successfully expanded her business to the Fenway neighborhood, opening a second location this past April.

Here, the owner tells BostInno how she spends her days balancing life and work, and why she decided to open The Handle Bar in the first place.

How do you spend most mornings?

Depending on the day, I wake up sometime between the hours of 4:45 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. I grab an iced coffee on my way in, and I usually munch on a granola bar within 10 minutes of waking up … I’m always hungry!

What are the top priorities on your to-do list right now?

Short term: Create my playlist for the 7 p.m. class I’m teaching in two hours … I’ve left myself a note to ‘make it a good one.’

Long term: Run our first-ever fitness challenge, called “HBSummerShare.” It incorporates social media and riding in a big leaderboard/point system. We already have 60 people signed up.

What is the best part and the worst part about your day?

Let’s start with the bad – waking up. I’ve never been a morning person and it does NOT get easier with routine.

Best part of my day is being at the studio during evening classes. I love seeing riders, chatting with my staff, and keeping the vibe of the studio upbeat and happy – it’s contagious! Evening riders are much more talkative than the morning crew, so it’s my little social hour.

What inspired you to open your own spinning studio?

I worked for a startup activewear company out of college and got to see what it was like to be part of a small, brand new business. And since I was working within the fitness industry I got to know a lot of studio owners and instructors and fell in love with the community here in Boston. I made the decision in October of 2011 to pursue the idea of opening my own studio.

If you could impart one piece of advice to our readers, what would it be?

In entrepreneurship, most things are not as hard as they seem. Just take each project on one at a time, rather than getting intimidated by the whole endeavor. Rely on experts and ask a lot of questions.

Why do you think our readers should take your spinning class?

Because it’s a party every single time we sit on those bikes! If you want a workout that flies by, but leaves you drenched – this is the one for you!

What would you do if you were suddenly granted a day off from work tomorrow?

I would go home to my parents’ house and lay by the pool with our yellow lab, Ollie.

If you weren’t answering my questions, what would you be doing instead?

Replacing a pedal on one of the bikes at the Fenway studio – that’s next on tap. Wrench is ready!
