Washington D.C. Navy Yard gunman Aaron Alexis, who claimed the lives of 13 people, visited a Buddhist Temple in Raynham, MA, last month and asked to spend the night. Prior to undertaking the tragedy in Washington, Alexis reportedly suffered from mental illnesses including paranoia, post traumatic stress, and heard voices in his head.

He supposedly couldn’t sleep in a hotel room due to the voices in his head and asked to sleep in the confines of the temple.

According to CBS Boston, “Eang Tan, a board member at the Thai Buddhist temple in Raynham, told the Taunton Daily Gazette that Aaron Alexis visited there August 18 and talked about noises in his head.”

He proceeded to ask Tan, speaking in fluent Thai, if he could set up shop for the night but was prohibitited from doing so because the temple doesn’t allow for overnight visitors.

“He stayed in an old school that the temple leases from the town,” continued CBS. In a show of good citizenry, Tan notified the proper authorities as soon as Alexis’ face appeared on television stations country-wide.

Raynham is located approximately 3o-miles south of Boston, 20-miles north of Providence, in Massachusetts’ Bristol County.

Alexis, a former Navy Reserve, used legitimate security clearances to enter the Navy Yard in our nation’s capital before taking the lives of 13 people using a shotgun and handgun that he disarmed from an officer on the premises. He was subsequently killed during the incident.
