Originally only available in New York City, Poncho, a weather advice service, has now launched in Boston. Poncho’s goal is to make weather forecasts accurate but also personal.

Poncho, a sassy orange cat dressed in a yellow rain jacket, sends subscribers customized texts or e-mail updates every morning about what to expect from the weather from that day.

Founder Kaun Huang told BusinessInsider that the New York City counter part has about 16k subscribers and currently has a unique open rate of e-mails of 50 percent every day. Huang wrote that they decided to go with Boston for their next city because it has similar weather patterns. In Boston Poncho is currently only giving weather and pollen forecasts but commute forecasts are yet to come.

Although this lively feline is able to give you funny advice at a glance, what differentiates this service from the many other alternative weather services?

Consider that Swackett, for example, is an iPhone app that not only tells the weather but has a ‘peep’ wearing clothes that are tailored to the conditions outside.

There is also WhatToWear and TheStyleUp , sites that tailor what your fashion is to what you should be wearing due to the weather conditions of where you live.

Out of all of these choices, Poncho is different because it provides a personality to the weather unseen elsewhere. It provides advice that you enjoy to listen to. Those other style apps just give you stylish clothing that you wish you could afford, or clothing that doesn’t really go with your comfort level of being outside for long periods of time.

Let’s see how the lively orange cat will fair in Boston’s  unpredictable weather.
