New England is certainly home to some of the best breweries in the country – if not, the world. With the Boston Beer Company in our backyard and numerous other nearby breweries to choose from, it’s not hard for beer drinking-New Englanders to stay local when selecting a brewski.

And fortunately, it seems that the rest of America also supports our New England breweries. Conde Nast Traveler readers recently chose their favorite local breweries in the U.S. and – no surprise – included one of New England’s faves – the Allagash Brewing Company.

The Portland, ME brewery was ranked the third “Best Local Brewery in the U.S.” The reason? One Conde Nast Traveler voter exclaimed “ I love @AllagashBrewing for their friendly staff, awesome free tours & samples, and of course, best craft beer I’ve ever had!”

The popular Portland brewery was founded in 1995 by Rob Tod, whose mission was to share and create Belgian-style beers for U.S. drinkers. Allagash is known for their Belgian-style brews – particularly, their signature Allagash White beer, “modeled after the traditional ‘White’ beers of Belgium,” as stated on their website.

If you decide to head to Portland, ME, we recommend taking one of their free brewery tours which includes a tasting of four Allagash beers.

Other local (non-New England) breweries that made the Conde Nast Traveler list included Brooklyn Brewery, Doghead Fish Brewery, 21st Amendment Brewery and more. To see the rest of the Conde Nast Traveler list, check here.
