The Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) Association released a new total of donations earlier on Wednesday. Since July 29, an impressive $31.5 million has been raised nationally, compared with $1.9 million over the same span (July 29-August 20) in 2013. It’s a staggering difference, and should dissuade any lingering curmudgeons from trudging out the same (clearly erroneous) notion that “you’re not really helping by taking the ice bucket challenge.”

Rather than faltering after a week or two, the ice bucket challenge continues to thrive, with thousands of people partaking in the engaging (if freezing) format, spreading it on to their friends. One of the notable recent participants was Celtics legend (and current Indiana Pacers president), Larry Bird. The normally reserved Bird showed off his good natured side (as well as a previously unheard of goofy laugh) during his video, seen above.

The very idea that Larry Bird is willingly having ice dumped over his head is probably one of the best indicators out there that the ice bucket challenge has truly reached virtually every corner of the internet. Not that Larry Legend isn’t a charitable, well-meaning guy, but more to the fact that he’s usually known for being fairly straight forward, and not prone to (as was already mentioned) dumping perfectly good ice water over his head, and then immediately dunking himself.
